Your child's first dentist visit: a calm guide
When to go, what to say and what to avoid saying, with a few tricks from Dr. Bernard's sticker drawer.
The best first visit is short, friendly and boring. We aim for that.
When to go
By their first birthday, or when the first tooth appears.
How to prepare
- Read a picture book about the dentist together.
- Choose a morning slot when they are rested.
- Avoid words like 'hurt' or 'needle'; we have our own friendly vocabulary.
At home
Brush twice a day with a rice-grain smear of fluoride toothpaste under age three, and a pea-sized amount after.
